Abstract: Numerous historic buildings can be found in the medieval and maritime city of Birgu (Citta Vittoriosa). Actually, Birgu lies on a promontory flanked by two ancient seaports Porto delle Galere (now Dockyard Creek) and Porto degli Ebrei (now Kalkara Creek) and protected by Castrum Maris (Fort St Angelo). Ancient churches, such as the Church of St. Anne or the Church of the Nativity of Mary, are considered as key buildings in the evolution of ecclesiastical architecture in Malta, and contain medieval paintings of great historical and artistic importance.
