Abstract: Francesca Teresa ParIar was a Maltese mystic. In 1882, she joined the Third Order of St Dominic. Teresa Parlar's reputation for sainthood soon flourished among the Maltese, but in 1885 she was accused of being possessed by evil spirits, and later, of being affected with a severe form of hysteria. Nevertheless, after several stays in hospital, she was given permission to live in a house in Senglea in 1901. According to Fabian Mangion, Teresa Parlar's life was exclusively ascetic, interwoven with prayer and spiritual aspirations. She is known for her gift of prophecy.
