| Abstract: | Gabriel Caruana was a pioneer of contemporary art in Malta, drawing inspiration from popular art traditions and the architecture of the Island. According to the author of the article, Caruana established the basic rule of following no rules, and his work was always a form of visceral rebellion against convention. Throughout his life, Caruana always demonstrated an instinctive need to create spontaneously, with a sense of immediacy. In 2017, he was bestowed in absentia with the title of Master of Letters - Honoris Causa by the University of Malta. |
