Abstract: Technology Education can contribute a great deal towards the education of our young people but its full potential has yet to be realised. The framework is already set for the subject to be taught throughout the Primary school cycle. This research was aimed at understanding the development of the subject at this level, probing the awareness that exists and exploring reasons that might affect what seems to be a slow implementation. The study was conducted through interviews and questionnaires in which the participants were asked for their understanding of the benefits of the subject. In this respect the literature review undertaken concentrated on the philosophy and rationale of the study area rather than on the content. The findings emphasised the belief that if pupils can become engaged with Technology Education from an early stage in their development, they will be better equipped with problem solving skills and more capable and competent in proposing and realising solutions to technological problems. These skills empower the children in activities outside as well as inside the school.
