dc.description.abstractThis article deals with the war shelters in Vittoriosa during World War 2. It is an account of life by Lino Bugeja, who was a Vittoriosa resident and a child during the war. After Italy's declaration of war against Great Britain on 10 June 1940, rock tunnels were hurriedly opened for the residents of Vittoriosa so they could take shelter. According to Lino Bugeja, the conditions in the public shelter were inhuman and quickly deteriorated, resulting in serious epidemics.en_GB
