In this article, the authors talks about a prominent Maltese artist hailing from Cospicua. Massimo (Maxim) Gauci was born in Bormla in 1776 to working class parents, who always encouraged his love for the arts. Gauci was sent to study art under Michele Busuttil in the newly founded University of Malta. Gauci continued his studies in Rome. Not much is known after his studies in Rome where completed however, it is discovered that after Rome he traveled to Paris, France. Here he gained success for his miniature paintings. After his spell in France, Gauci travelled to London where, apart for his miniatures he was well known for his lithographs. He died in London in November 1858.en_GB
