Abstract: Underwater sampling techniques have much to contribute to marine ecology, and these techniques were used on the west coast of Malta by a team from the Portsmouth College of Technology to improve our knowledge of the distribution of Mollusca. Samples were taken from a variety of submarine cliff faces . 109 species were collected, of which a number provide new records for Malta. It is important that as many aspects as possible of the habitats of the collected animals should be described and recorded, and as an aid towards this a transect method of sampling was used.
