Abstract: Purpose: This study aims to evaluate the management of the different Working Capital (WC) components in a local family-owned construction company. It also seeks to outline a number of recommendations to enhance the company's Working Capital Management (WCM) and eventually its financial position and performance. Design: Knowledge about the company's current WCM was derived from a series of in-depth interviews held with the managing director and the administration manger. Further information was obtained through the calculation of key WC ratios based onto the company's financial statements for the period 2006 - 2009. Findings: The study established that the company's current WCM is marginal and this has led to a poor financial performance being experienced during the period under review. Weaknesses have been identified in the management of inventory, accounts receivables and payables and also cash. In particular, the lack of financial knowledge among the company's personnel was identified as being a key contributor to such downturn. Value: It is hoped that this study's analysis and recommendations will contribute to improvements to the company's approaches for managing WC and ultimately to its financial position and performance.
