Abstract: | We often point an accusing finger at the construction of buildings as the main cause for the loss of agricultural land and trees in Malta. This may well have been the case in the past few decades but, in recent years, road construction is also to blame. It is often disguised using terms such as ‘road alignment’, ‘upgrading of road network’ and ‘road widening’. With the massive road projects in Luqa and Marfa/Ċirkewwa nearing completion, works on another long stretch of the road network is on the cards – the road from Salini to Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq to Pembroke – which may have some major environmental impacts. |
