| dc.description.abstract | Designing this season's artisti c programme has been particularly exciting for a number of reasons. Thanks to the new climate-control system we are now open for longer and can therefore present significantly more projects. 2018 is also the year in which Valletta is the European Capital of Culture and The European Year of Cultural Heritage. Once again we have strived to increase the richness and variety of our programme. On the opera front we are presenting Don Giovanni, the second of the three operas by that miraculous partnership of Mozart and Da Ponte and we are premiering in Malta, Cendrillon, the opera by Maltese composer Nicolo Isouard on the 200th anniversary of his death. Drama productions include great plays like Anouilh's Antigone and Arthur Miller's The Crucible which sit cheek by jowl with original scripts in Maltese by Stagun Teatru Malti and a new production by the recently-formed and awardwinning Grokk Teatru. Alongside the popular series of orchestral concerts by the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, the music programme includes an eclectic mix of concerts and recitals covering various musical genres including a unique weekend of concerts by Malta's leading brass bands. | en_GB |
