dc.description.abstractThe aim of this study is to investigate how a relationship between training and career development is essential. This dissertation will analyse this relationship and will also discuss the importance of training in the tourism industry. This study pursued to discover whether training affects one’s choice in pursuing a career in tourism or not, the study being made specifically for Malta. It aims to give a rich understanding of how numerous leading institutions in Malta administer their training and how vital it is for them to emphasise on the employees’ requirements to accomplish their jobs competently with more knowledge, ability and expertise. Priority is given to the employees’ and students’ perceptions in relation to the requirement of training. This is done by probing to provide a better awareness of the current situation in a few of Malta’s institutions with regards to training. This study uses a quantitative and deductive method based on primary data; being the online questionnaire, and the secondary data. The findings aim to provide knowledge about the perceptions of students and employees in the tourism industry. The results show that training is important as it does affect one’s decisions in pursuing a career in the tourism industry or not. Both students and employees feel that there is much more room for improvement in Malta when it comes to training.en_GB
