This article discusses different schools of thought on the historical connections between Malta and the Arab world. To demonstrate how Islamic influences are woven into the fabric of Maltese society, the author refers to the ideas of local historians such as Charles Dalli. Together, they draw examples of Maltese words and names (of Catholic Feasts) that descend directly from Islamic rather than Latin roots.en_GB
