A supply-side analysis of the car rental market in Malta

Abstract

In Malta, several car hire agencies are found which cater for both foreign and local markets. The former is the core motivation for this study. Malta is a nation that is dependent on the tourism industry as it brings many advantages, including being a large contributor towards Malta’s economy. Being a small-sized island, travelling from one place to another is made easier and less of a hassle. However, there are still a few factors which pull the individual to make use of a private vehicle rather than public transportation, even while being in a foreign destination. Still, this submission was not interested in these motives. Instead, this research was interested in discovering the several key components which make up the car hire market of Malta. These include the several types of vehicle brands and classifications found within this market. This research also considered other qualities such as sizes of these businesses’ vehicle fleets as well as the amount of staff employed. Moreover, this research also analysed the trend of electric vehicles in the Maltese market as they are the latest innovations in the car sector. To analyse the car hire market from the supply-side, this study made use of primary data by distributing surveys to a sample of car hire agencies found in Malta. Secondary data was also used in order to discuss the review of the literature, The review of the literature provided a comprehensive knowledge into the world of vehicle renting and what it entails. After analysing the data gathered, this research gave its conclusion as well as further recommendations about this market in Malta.
