Between 2015 and 2016, the Maltese Industrial Relations scene was active on many fronts. Amongst the main disputes which were raised during this period, was the issue of the national airlines - Air Malta. Another issue that featured prominently was the push to increase the statutory minimum pay. A campaign, led by Caritas Malta and supported and sustained by a number of NGOs, intensified during this period. The reform of the industrial tribunal was another dominant issue. This issue, was raised after a court ruling stated that the provisions in the law related to the appointment of chairpersons of the tribunal, did not guarantee impartiality and independence as proclaimed in the Maltese constitution. What follows is an account of the events and debates related to these three issues.en_GB
