Abstract: | In the 18th century, Nicolo Muscat, who acted as an adviser to the Grandmaster (Advocate General) put up a fight with two Church representatives: the Inquisitor and the Bishop. This Maltese politician made it his life mission to separate the State from the Church. He was also the first one to mention civil marriage. A book about Nicolo Muscat, called "Church-State relations in late -eighteenth-century Malta" written by Frans Ciappara was launched on September 14 2018. |
