| Abstract: | The present issue of the Demographic Review presents data on Population and Vital Events in 1979. Apart from providing detailed statistical tables on vital events which occurred during the year, it also gives comparative data for previous years. The tables are as usual preceded by a Commentary reviewing the main demographic features for 1979. This shows that in 1979 Malta continued to show good progress in its health standards with sustained relatively low numbers and rates of deaths, a low infant mortality and a high expectation of life at birth. Predominant diseases causing death, moreover, remained those associated with countries with advanced social and economic conditions. |
