The main aim of this dissertation is to evaluate the role and the importance of the nutritionist in secondary schools. Several aspects are considered amongst which are: the dissemination of information both to educators and students. Objectives of the study included: knowledge of teachers in secondary schools, the role of the nutritionist in the treatment of eating disorders and the importance of applying a multidisciplinary team approach for such cases. Sample schools were chosen in order to interview a number of teachers. Results showed that 70% of participants recalled that few or no lectures were being given regarding eating disorders. It was interesting to note that only 17% of those who encountered a student with an eating disorder referred them for professional help. 16% confessed that they were confused and lacked knowledge and did not do anything about the situation. Prior to discussing recommendations, different methods of disseminating information were discussed with participants. The most recommended method was to provide lectures to students by a nutritionist on a regular basis together with the sharing of true life experience of persons who suffered from an eating disorder. 69% of those interviewed said that they are not well prepared and said that the nutritionist has a vital role in the preparation of both students and teachers. This high percentage reflects that nutritional consultation is locally needed to deal with eating disorders such as anorexia nervosa.en_GB
