Abstract: The old-fashioned oil-lamps in use since prehistoric times, have emphasized the necessity for light in the daily pursuites of man. Although various types of fuels and light sources have been developed, we still hold on to some simple candle tucked away for an emergency. It can easily be imagined, that up to such time when kerosene became a household commodity, most habitations smelt of oil, and candlewax. Candle holders of various types persisted up to very recently, especially the "bugija" made of tin or enamel, or often of porcelain or earthenware material, which was put to good use in the shelters during the last war.
