Abstract

The restricted opportunities that our small country can offer have always gravely handicapped the life of Maltese artists that too often tends to become a pathetic chronicle of arduous struggling - not infrequently unrewarding. Every serious artist needs space to expand and an audience he can address - amenities that a tiny island as Malta can barely afford. So the threat of shrivelling up - just like a plant with insufficient sustenance - lies dangerously near at hand. And indeed such has been the fate of many Maltese artists.
