Abstract: The final days of 1852 were not very happy for the Maltese merchant fleet. In September, the brig "Zeitun" commanded by Captain Azzopardi was lost near Tenedos while on a voyage to the Danube from Girgenti with a cargo of salt. Fortunately no lives were lost. It is of interest to note that this brig was the second vessel named "Zeitun" owned by the Zejtun merchants Rosario Busutil, Angelo and Giuseppe Abela. The first one was a schooner of 140 tons which they acquired in 1826.
