| Abstract: | By 1909, Maltese banking was approaching the end of the .first phase of its eventful history. These were vital years in the island's political life. The language question (English, or Italian, or Maltese) was at its height, and the clamour for social and economic reforms was considerable. The years just prior to the start of World War I, however, still had some interesting banking developments to produce. |
