Abstract: One of the most interesting characters in the history of Maltese shipping and maritime trade during the first sixty years of the last century was Biagio Tagliaferro, who for many years owned and financed a large fleet of barques and brigs, also took a very active life in the maritime scene of Malta. The records of the shipowning Tagliaferro family in Malta go back to the late eighteenth century, but this short historical survey of B. Tagliaferro & Sons begins early in the nineteenth century when Bagio Tagliaferro decided to settle on the Island and seek his fortunes in Malta.
