The "Sette Giugno" : Saturday, June 7th, 1919

Abstract

Over the past sixty years the events which occurred on June 7th, 1919 have been referred to by a number of titles. Some label them as the "Sette Giugno Affair", others as the "June Uprising", the "June Revolution", the "1919 Revolt" or simply the "Sette Giugno". However, they all refer to the events preceding and following June 7th, 1919. What happened on that day and why? As in every incident in history, when one tries to find out what happened, one finds more than a single cause for the occurrence. The Sette Giugno is no exception. There were both long term and immediate causes which triggered off the uprising. We shall briefly examine both of these.
