Abstract: Be it the Pre-historic times, the Middle Ages or even today, Man has always had to work to earn his daily bread. In many instances this has led man to work in groups with the result that many occupations developed into industries of national importance. Malta has always lacked raw-materials but among its natural resources are the climate, limestone and its central position in the Mediterranean These are the basic ingredients, coupled with changing circumstances, which have in the past moulded Malta's most important industries.
