Abstract: | Before commenting on Carmelo Pace's four Operas I will mention La Predestinata, a Marian commemoration written by me in 1954 for the occasion of the First Centenary of the Dogma of the Immaculate Conception and the institution of the Feast of the Regality of the Blessed Virgin. In this play I brought to life various episodes from the life of the Mother of God, interspersed by choruses and linked together by "History" symbolised by a female figure poised gracefully at the left-hand side of the stage and coming to life after each Episode commenting and foretelling the events that were to take place. This character was impressively played by Maria Pisani, who later on translated the play, which was written by me in Italian, into Maltese. |
