On April 7, 1942 the late night bulletin on Rome Radio claimed that "all military objectives attacked in Malta during the evening's raid were ruthlessly destroyed". One of these presumably was the Scouts Headquarters at Floriana. Fr Bernard Hersey, Secretary of the Association, was on the spot and by a miracle escaped death. "We were to hold a rehearsal at 6 p.m. in connection with the Scouts' half-hour programme which we were giving fortnightly over the Rediffusion service. The scouts started arriving in small batches at headquarters from shortly after 5 p.m. For some unaccountable reason, call it a hunch of impending danger, the ever-increasing number of scouts irritated me because their presence at Floriana caused me some anxiety and worry.en_GB
