Authors: Grech, Sarah
Keywords: Dance -- Competitions

Clothing and dress
Issue Date: 2015
Abstract: This dissertation explores the idea of costumes as playing an essential role within Carnival in Victoria and aims to develop a better understanding of their various uses in the number of competitions held during the organised Carnival in Gozo. It does so by (1) analysing costumes as a pedagogical tool in primary school dance competitions; (2) gaining a semiotic understanding through costumes used in adult dance competitions; and by (3) looking at costumes as a theatrical element within the floats competitions.
