dc.description.abstract | This research has investigated males' and females' preferences in mate selection for long term relationships. The study investigated different characteristics that form personality rated high by both genders and the characteristics that are preferred by either sex. This research investigates the areas of physical preferences, character qualities and socio-economic status / level of education. Through the use of a self administered questionnaire (N=433), this study examined the different features that attribute to a potential mate. For instance having a responsible or funny character, being able to hold a good job, or having a prefered body weight or height. The findings demonstrate that both females and males look out for different qualities when choosing their mate. It was found that Maltese females consider more than males the socio-economic status of their potential mate, together with preferred character qualities such as parental, responsible and sensitive. On the other hand Maltese males have shown a further physical interest in their potential mate. Moreover, this study has also found that both genders do share a common view on certain characteristics especially in character qualities desired. | en_GB |
