Abstract: Monsignor Peter Paul Saydon was born on 24th July 1895. At the age of 20 he achieved his Baccalaureate in Literature, and later graduated in Canon Law and achieved his Doctorate in Theology. Then, he was appointed Professor of Sacred Scripture, of Jewish and the Greek Biblical texts at the University of Malta. He remained in this post until his retirement in 1964. The greatest of Saydons works was the translation of the Holy scriptures from their original language into Maltese. He began this work in 1929 when he translated the first book of Genesis. Saydon spent thirty years of his life on this project and did it all alone.
