Abstract: Coronary artery disease (CAD) remains the leading cause of death in the Western world despite improved understanding of the pathophysiological mechanisms, improved methods for diagnosis and the availability of new treatments. Preventive measures can be aimed at preventing or delaying disease progression in high-risk patients or regressing an already well-established lesion in patients with pre-existing disease.
