The aim of this research was to shed light on young Gozitan adolescents’ (aged 15-17) perspectives towards cannabis use and its effects. This research attempted to explore if these adolescents are aware of the effects and harms of cannabis. This research also focused on understanding the adolescent’s perspectives of why some youths start using cannabis and what social factors are influencing youths to start using. Social factors involved peers, parents, media, community drug patterns or peer pressure. Moreover, this study also focused on the opinions of these adolescents regarding the current drug reforms. This study was based on a quantitative approach where data was collected by means of a questionnaire. Data was extracted from a sample of 100 first year sixth form students during their Systems of Knowledge lectures. The participants were given a consent form which needed to be signed by a parent/guardian in order for them to be able to take part in this study. Following the data analysis, it was found that 88% of the Gozitan adolescents were 16 years old and 81% of them consider themselves as religious. Additionally, 64% of the students claimed that they do not have a positive attitude towards cannabis, 61% believe that marijuana is addictive and 62% of the students believe that marijuana is harmful. Among the social factors studied, peer pressure was found to be the most influential on the adolescents’ perspectives towards cannabis use.en_GB
