| Abstract: | The titular painting of 'The Assumption of Our Lady' by Pietro Gagliardi in the parish church of Gudja has been recently restored by Alfred Briffa. This painting works as a perfect example of Gagliardi's style of paintings in Malta as can be similarly seen in other parish churches. Fiorentino notes how different these paintings are not only from his own paintings in other countries but also from other Maltese painters at the time as the aesthetics move away from the traditional iconography that is illustrated in other Maltese and Gozitan churches. |
