Citation: Spiteri, T. (1973). The functions and responsibilities of notaries public (Master's dissertation).
Abstract: It is not the purpose of this dissertation to deal with the diverse functions assumed by the modern notary, which are either accessory or even extraneous to his profession and such as might include the filing of notices of succession, the decontrolling of premises, the filling up of income tax returns and many others. Such a task would lead to a lengthy and less fruitful examination of functions which are not proper to the notarial profession. On the contrary, an attempt will be made to deal at some depth with the most fundamental duties charged on the Notary Public by the provisions of the Notarial Profession and Notarial Archives Act. The basic functions of a notary public, therefore, include: 1. The receiving of acts ‘inter vivos’ and ‘causa mortis’ 2. Advising the parties Besides the principal functions already considered, there are a number of other functions entrusted to the Notary Public.
