Abstract: One will undoubtedly see throughout my thesis which I am submitting for my degree in laws, that my main intention is to outline in a clear fashion as possible the amendments which have affected in some way or another the Constitutional History of Malta. The period I chose to cover commences when Malta first attained a self-autonomous government in the year 1921 and finishes in 1988 with the report of the Select Committee suggesting a considerable number of amendments. I have tried as best I could to give it a legal/historical touch, leaving aside the political aspects so as not to offend anybody’s sentiments. The most important events in the Constitution of Malta are basically two. First of all, when Malta attained independence from the British Government on the 21st September 1964, and secondly, when Malta became a Republic on the 13th December 1974. Unfortunately, there is not much work or research available with regards to the last 20 years of the period chosen, since a lot of the work is not made available to the public, therefore I sincerely hope that my efforts in this regard are satisfactory. As years go by there undoubtedly would be new amendments and it is my wish to keep this thesis as exact and to date as possible, thus I will have to make the necessary addends as and when required.
