Abstract: This booklet is intended for boys and girls of 14 years of age and over who stand at the crossroads of life and will soon have to make a choice on which their whole future may depend. At 14 years of age you will soon be growing into young men and women and therefore you wil1 have to think about your future - about the job you will do when you leave school. You all want good jobs, jobs you are attracted to and feel you have an aptitude for. You expect to find jobs that have a future too. I shall answer some of the questions which, I am sure, you will be asking at this stage. At your age you are old enough to make up your own mind, to make decisions for yourself. Of course you need some help from older people, who have some experience in guiding young persons – Your parents, the Careers Master/Mistress and the Careers Guidance Officer and his staff at the Youth Employment Office of the Department of Labour and Emigration. Have you thought at all yet about leaving school and what sort of work you will do afterwards? May be you have already decided, may be you have not yet begun to think about it. Do not wait too long otherwise it will be too late; The type of job you can get depends very much on how long you have stayed at school and what you have done while you were at school. You have to be able to assess yourself on your past achievement. This means that you have to be honest with yourself and think of what you have done at school. You have to see which school subjects you were good at, and which of them you liked most, which subject you hated most and why.
