In conventional terms, Malta is a very small island, measuring only eighteen miles from top to bottom - and the two sister islands Gozo and Camino are smaller still. Malta is also very much developed, with an almost solid crescent of buildings running round eastwards from Madliena to Marsascala, altogether about 40% of the land mass. One would imagine that open country, good walking routes would be hard to find, but this is by no means so. [excerpt]en_GB
