Abstract: It is customary to insure goods shipped aboard sea-going vessels against the perils of the journey. The aim of the person interested in the goods in taking out insurance is to ensure that the risk in the venture is either shifted or distributed so that, in the event of loss, he will not suffer financial devastation. Basing itself on the Lloyd's Marine Policy and the Institute Cargo Clauses A, B and C, this thesis examines issues related to the practice of insurance on goods being carried by sea in the light of general principles of insurance and of legislation regulating marine insurance.
