Abstract: This dissertation examines the place of a teacher mentor in initial teacher training. It evaluates the impact of new initiatives of teaching practice, which give importance to school-based training. The innovative approach of mentoring will be the main area of study. The study will include an evaluation of the literature on mentoring. History of 'partnership' between Higher Education Institutes and schools in general and rnentoring in particular will be reviewed. Through literature, questionnaires and interviews, the current teaching practice and the roles and views of the main participants will be evaluated. Mentoring will be proposed as one of the solutions for change.
