Abstract: In this dissertation the sport of Bodybuilding is analysed and both its physical and psychological benefits and dangers discussed. The points of discussion are focused around the various benefits and dangers of the sport and the Athlete's and non athlete's perception of the sport. A total of 156 questionnaires were distributed to assist the discussion. Emphasis on the historical aspect of the sport has been made to emphasize the importance and the recognition of the health benefits associated with the sport. The findings of this dissertation are that bodybuilding is considered one of the most controversial sports both among Athletes and the non Athletes. Also it was made clear that both Athletes and non Athletes feel that a large variety of sports both locally and internationally are marred by the doping problem. A prediction of how the international doping problem will evolve and also recommendations are made on combating the local doping problem.
