Abstract

This dissertation seeks to examine the contemporary European literary movement which has introduced new and varied themes and forms of literary exposition. In this light, the study analyses the participation of Maltese writers in this literary movement, which is discussed considering the natural relationship between the literary sensibility of the Maltese writer and that of writers from other cultures. This study is considered from the perspective of novelists. For the purpose of this analysis four novels were chosen. The dissertation highlights also social aspects of Maltese society as presented by contemporary literature.
