Abstract: | The significance of Sports and Physical Education in schools, particularly in Secondary Schools, as a vital element in the complete educational process is not fully appreciated. Obsession with results and the competitive approach within Sport and academic matters, is depriving sport in schools of its most precious asset - fun. Various factors might even blur the importance of physical education and youngsters tend to lose their perspective of physical activity as a lifetime experience. A survey carried out in all Secondary schools evaluates the present situation of physical education as well as expresses the views and opinions of various teachers from diverse localities. An interesting pattern emerges - one which calls for a novel direction consonant with modern concepts on sport and physical recreation. The Sports Council, through a National Sports Policy can give great importance to school sports to help in the implementation of sound educational values - which are highlighted in this work. |
