Students' experience of the Pure Mathematics course at Intermediate Level

Abstract

Our investigation explores students' views and experience of the Pure Mathematics Intermediate (PMI) course at the Junior College, the main pre-university institution in Malta. Being a rather recent introduction to the Maltese educational system, we have been unable to find any published research about it. We collected our data through surveys with first year students at the College after conducting exploratory interviews. Our findings show the need for those concerned to address a number of issues raised by the students. These involve the PMI option itself, how it is being presented at the College, and the Matriculation System.
