As it always been my wish to seek out important facts about the cultural development of my native tongue. I made up my mind to contact prominent persons, such as Prof. J. Aquilina of the Royal Malta University and Mr. Cremona ex-teacher of Maltese at the Lyceum, from whom adequate information could be obtained. The reason for selecting this interesting theme is two-fold: first, because as a Maltese citizen, I should be well acquainted with the literary, historical and political development of the Maltese Language; secondly, because the Maltese language is linked up with the popular name of Mikiel Anton Vassalli whose ardour and love for his native tongue inspires admiration and esteem in every Maltese heart.en_GB
