The British Ability Scales (word recognition) Test : a standardization on 8 year old Maltese children

Abstract

The British Ability Scales (word recognition) Test a standardization on 8 year old Maltese children. This dissertation investigated the reading ability of children in Maltese out if published primary schools. Its aim English reading Tests was to find could be administered to Maltese children. Two test-Forms from the British Ability Scales word recognition test were administered to all 8 year old children attending 3 state primary schools. Data was subjected to statistical analysis by means of the T-test. An analysis of results reveal no significant difference between scores of those children who had just turned 8 and those who were going to be 9 and also between the sex groups' scores. It was also found out that with some alterations in the listing of the test items, the British Ability Scales word recognition test is appropriate for use with Maltese children.
