Abstract: This dissertation studied adolescent relationship patterns with peers and parents during the transitional period from 5th Form to 6th Form (15 to 18 year-olds). Quantitative data was collected through a questionnaire given to a sample of 180 adolescents attending four Junior Lyceums in different areas of Malta and the New Lyceum. The general results confirmed current views of adolescence as a period of harmonious relationships despite changes. The Chi-Square test was carried out to check if there were differences between sexes and between year-groups. Significant differences resulted between male and female adolescents on several issues like communication with peers and parents. Evidence was also found of a gradual continuous development between year-groups on some issues like independence, however there were several indications of a more difficult period in the Form VI first year adolescents' relationships in contrast to Form V and Form VI second year.
