Abstract: This dissertation highlights the importance of implementing a vocational education programme at Corradino Correctional Facility. Since 1997 the Educational Programme at Corradino has focused mainly on the teaching of accademic subjects. While this has been a good initiative, it may be the time to move on. Being a prisoner does not imply being deprived from learning. Prisoners should be provided with a possibility to learn a skill or trade through an organised educational programme. Moreover, being incarcerated for a period of time should bring about a change for the better, and the best way to do this is through education. Vocational Education will help the inmate to learn a skill or trade, while being awarded with a certificate which will hopefully open possibilities for employment once released. Therefore, through Vocational Education, prisoners are less likely to revert to crime. Through analysis of similar programmes available abroad, mainly in Europe and America and through interviews conducted with inmates - a draft proposal of a Vocational Education programme for Corradino Correctional Facility is suggested.
