Abstract

This dissertation attempts to give an overview of the important events which act as milestones in the history of the six Philharmonic Societies written about, and which helped them to become what they are today. This work could also serve as an index for works composed by Maltese Composers found in the archives of these six Bands. The bands written about are, the King's own Band-Valletta; the Union Band -Luqa; the Prekursur Band - Xewkija; the St. George's band - Qormi the St. Andrew's band - Luqa; and the St. Helen's Band - Birkirkara in that order.
