Abstract: The first part of this work records the results of two separate questionnaires; the first administered to 628 boys and 575 girls attending secondary schools, and the second, administered to 132 male and 50 female secondary school teachers. Our research aimed at describing the attitudes of both these groups towards the emerging computer technology, as well as providing information regarding the computer resources which already exist in children's homes. The second part of the study looks at specific classroom applications of computer hardware and software in Mathematics9 English, History and Science teaching through a review of the literature and a number of currently available programs. A final chapter deals with a brief look at the policy of the local education department as regards the implementation of Computer Assisted Learning in Maltese government secondary schools. To finish off 7 a short conclusion discusses the potential problems of using computers in education.
