Abstract: Although many species of plants are specifically cultivated for food, a large number of wild plants, or plants primarily cultivated for other purposes, are also edible and can be important both to lend variety to a diet and also as potential crops for the future. In this dissertation, wild and cultivated plants in the Maltese Islands, have been presented from the point of view of edibility. The main body of my work is an annotated checklist of the edible species. Some sample recipes are given in the appendix.
