Abstract: The dissertation deals with two main areas. One main area involves gender differences in the Sec Mathematics 1996 Paper. The results were based on a sample of 1648 candidates. It was found that boys outperformed the girls. The other area, tackled issues dealing with the candidates choice of level in the SEC Mathematics Examination. Questionnaires were given to 991 Junior Lyceum Students, and interviews were conducted with all their mathematics teachers. It was found through the questionnaire that female students, lack confidence. Most of the students and teachers are not against choice. The arguments against, dealt more with the implementations of Choice.
